Clay Walker, CEcd, Executive Director of the City of Gallatin's Economic Development Agency, has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Economic Partnership (TEP). TEP is a public-private program created in 1990 by the state's leading economic development professionals and corporate executives to organize opportunities that attract new jobs to the state. Through strategically planned networking events, TEP generates leads and business relationships with key prospects and consultants with the goal of increasing private capital investment in the state, creating higher incomes, and marketing the state as a premiere business address.

Show your support for the troops who can't make it home for the holidays with a "Wish You Were Here" gold ribbon. Ribbons are available at The Gallatin News and at Beverly's Bouquets Floral & Gifts. They can be tied on the City of Gallatin's Christmas tree on the Historic Downtown Square. Mayor Jo Ann Graves and Cassandra Schumacher tied the first gold ribbon at the annual City Christmas Tree lighting.

The Gallatin Arts Council and the Friends of the Library present "Magic on Main Street", The Trees of Christmas, at the Gallatin Library, 123 E. Main Street. Trees are sponsored by local businesses and organizations and will remain on view at the library through Christmas during regular business hours. There is no admission charge.

The City of Gallatin is hosting it's 3rd Annual TubaChristmas event. If you or someone you know plays a tuba, sousaphone, baritone, euphonium or any instrument in the tuba family, please come out and perform for the public. Tuba Christmas will be held on November 29 at 6:30 at the Gallatin First United Methodist Church. For more information click here.

The annual lighting of the City Christmas Tree is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 2, on the downtown square. The program opens with performances by children's choirs from local churches followed by the tree lighting. After the tree lighting, visitors are also invited to the Gallatin Library for a special children's program and to see the Trees of Christmas in the Library. And, Greater Gallatin plans to have the Santa House open that night for photos with Santa.

The Gallatin Chamber's Christmas Parade - A Main Street Christmas - begins at noon on Saturday, December 10. The parade kicks off at Steam Plant Road near the hospital, travels down Main Street, then Nashville Pike and ends at Gallatin High School. For more information, contact the Chamber at 452-4000.

The annual Christmas Harvest Craft Show is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, at the Gallatin Civic Center, 210 Albert Gallatin Avenue. The event is from 9am to 5pm and admission is free.

Gallatin Chamber's annual Holiday Tinsel & Treasures is set for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12 & 13, at participating businesses across the city. The event also features children's choirs performing Saturday, Nov. 12 on the Historic Downtown Square from 10:30am to 12:30pm. For more information, click here.

(October 19, 2011) Boy Scout Troop 488 met with Mayor Jo Ann Graves at City Hall this week to learn more about government as they work toward badges. The Troop also lead the pledge of allegiance at the Council Meeting.

(September 30, 2011) The Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) has honored Gallatin with seven awards of excellence for a variety of programs and initiatives. GNRC is the regional planning and economic development organization of the 13 counties and 52 cities in the greater Nashville region of northern Middle Tennessee. Gallatin received awards for Communication, Community Enrichment, Economic Development, Energy Conservation and Resource Protection, Parks and Recreation Facilities, Planning, and Preservation. (August 30, 2011) Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty joined with Sumner County officials in congratulating ABC Group Fuel Systems on their decision to expand their current facility in Gallatin, Tenn. The expansion represents a $5 million investment by the company and will create 114 new jobs. ABC Group Fuel Systems is a Tier 1 manufacturer of plastic fuel tank systems and urea systems for automotive and non-automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEM). “The Jobs4TN strategy focuses on existing Tennessee businesses for growth, and I’m pleased ABC Group Fuel Systems will expand and continue its success in Gallatin,” Haslam said. Gallatin's Independence Day celebration begins at 3 p.m. at the City's Civic Center on Monday, July 4. Fireworks are scheduled to go off at 9 p.m. This year's event is co-sponsored by the City and Faces of Hope, a non-profit agency providing services for families and children with autism and special needs.

The Gallatin Police Department invites the public to two events - one on Saturday, June 25 at the Shalom Zone and another on Wednesday, June 29 at the Police Department Headquarters downtown. The event Saturday is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features the GPD's Command Post and motorcycles. The event on June 29 is from noon to 2 p.m. Food will be served at both. Mark your calendar for June 11 and bring your children to the annual KID'S FREE FISHING DERBY. The City's Leisure Services Department invites kids ages 5 - 16 to test their fishing skills from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Lock Four Point Park. Kids must pre-register at the Gallatin Civic Center by Thursday, June 9th. There is no fee to participate, but you must register to enter. Prizes will be given away to all participants. Trophies and prizes will be given in each age division for the biggest fish, smallest fish, and largest stringer. There will also be a casting contest where the champion wins a rod and reel. Join the Gallatin Chamber for the 4th Annual "Taste of Gallatin", presented by Volunteer State Community College & Newton Nissan, on Thursday, May 26th, from 5-8 pm. Held at Triple Creek Park, this is a social event that showcases restaurants, caterers, groceries, and other businesses in the Gallatin area. Mayor Jo Ann Graves hands Mickey Collier the Mayor’s Trophy for his entry in the City’s first Classic Car Exhibition in conjunction with the annual Squarefest in downtown Gallatin.  More than 60 antique cars, trucks and other vehicles filled the City Hall parking lot.  Mr. Collier’s entry included a restored 1955 Chevy truck and a 1959 Tomahawk boat.

The Gallatin Police Department has honored Officer Daniel Steakin with its Officer of the Year Award. Officer Steakin was recognized at the Police Department's Annual Awards Banquet April 21. The Police Department commended Officer Steakin for his persistence in investigating calls at the patrol level which resulted in more than one instance of children being removed from dangerous situations. (April 11, 2011) The Gallatin Economic Development Agency unveiled its "Work in Gallatin" initiative today. The program, created as part of the agency's GEAR - Gallatin Expansion and Retention - program, is designed to create a higher level of visibility and awareness about the many career opportunities that are available in Gallatin, which has become the employment hub of Sumner County. Greater Gallatin's annual Squarefest on Saturday, April 30, features a new event this year - a Classic Car Exhibition. Owners are invited to show off their classic cars from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot. Click the poster for details. (March 24, 2011) The City of Gallatin's Triple Creek Sports Complex has been awarded the 2010 ISA Adult Complex of the Year by the Independent Softball Association (ISA). The ISA has numerous tournaments in Gallatin bringing thousands of people to the City. Read more in News Release.

(March 21, 2011)  Population for the City of Gallatin has surpassed the 30,000 mark according to new figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.  Results of the 2010 Census show Gallatin with a population of 30,278 – an increase of 30% over the 2000 Census when Gallatin’s population was 23,230.  In comparison, Sumner County’s population grew 23%; Hendersonville’s went up 26%; and Nashville/Davidson County had less that 10% growth.  For more information, see the attached news release.  “We knew Gallatin had experienced a growth-spurt over the past ten years,” Mayor Jo Ann Graves said.  “But it is still exciting to break 30,000.  This puts us in a new category for an increased share of sales tax from the State and in a better category for grants and other funding.”

The City of Gallatin is accepting applications for Community Enhancement Grants for the 2011-12 Budget Year. The application deadline has been extended until March 18, 2011. Click here for an application.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded the City of Gallatin a SAFER Grant in the amount of $1,532,003 to fund 15 additional firefighters in the City.  “This grant is a tremendous award to the City,” Mayor Jo Ann Graves said.  “These funds will be used primarily to staff the new fire hall on Big Station Camp Boulevard which is scheduled to be complete by the end of the summer.” (Click here for entire news release)

The Nashville Ballet will present a free performance of Borreguita and the Coyote at 7 p.m., Friday, March 25 at the Historic Palace Theater in downtown Gallatin.  The ballet tells the story of Borreguita (little lamb, in Spanish) who avoids being eaten by a hungry coyote by outsmarting him with her quick wit. The performance is sponsored by The Gallatin Arts Council in partnership with the Hispanic Alliance at Volunteer State Community College and they will provide pre-show activities.

Gallatin Mayor Jo Ann Graves has been elected as the new chair of the Regional Transportation Authority.  The RTA offers Middle Tennessee transportation solutions in a nine-county area, including Sumner County.  Click here to read more about the new board and work of the RTA.

The Gallatin Arts Council is sponsoring "Behind the Scenes...Insider Insights on Making Movies" on Friday, January 28, at 7 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the Gallatin Public Library in downtown Gallatin. The event features panelists Michele and Ronnie Wise who worked with the Coen Brothers on "O Brother, Where Art Thou", and Van Flesher, Professor of Film at Watkins College of Art, Design and Film who worked on "The Green Mile."

Gallatin's first greenway has officially opened. The Town Creek Greenway runs a little more than a mile between Triple Creek Park and Historic Woodson Terrace. More than 90% of the construction work on the project went to businesses in Gallatin. The opening was also featured on News Channel 2 - watch here.

The Spirit of Christmas Parade – the theme of this year’s annual parade sponsored by the Gallatin Chamber of Commerce – begins at noon on Saturday, December 11, at Steam Plant Road, travels through Gallatin, and ends at Gallatin High School. (October 4, 2010) The Tennessee American Planning Association (TAPA) has recognized the City of Gallatin for its work on revitalizing Downtown.  TAPA honored Gallatin with the 2010 Outstanding Planning Award at its annual conference last week in Knoxville.  Accepting the award are (l-r) David Coode, Project Manager, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc.; Jim Svoboda, Gallatin Community Development Coordinator; Katherine Schoch, Asst. Greater Gallatin's annual Main Street Festival is Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10am to 6pm on the Historic Square in Downtown Gallatin. The Cemetery Tour, sponsored by the Sumner County Museum, is held the same day from 4pm-10pm. We hope to see you there!

The Senior World's 2010 Women's Softball tournament was held in Gallatin at Triple Creek Park September 15 -19. More than 900 players and guests from across the country and Canada participate in the annual tournament.

(August 24, 2010) The Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee selected Gallatin as the backdrop for a video it is producing on the future of mass transit in Middle Tennessee.  A film crew was on the Square in Downtown Gallatin this week filming interviews with Mayor Jo Ann Graves and other elected officials and business leaders from Sumner, Robertson and Davidson Counties.

As part of back-to-school activities, the Shalom Zone at Union Resource Center sponsored a school supply give-a-way on July 31, 2010. (July 23, 2010) Mayor Jo Ann Graves presents historic rail lines, ties and spikes to Juanita Frazor and Allen Haynes of the Sumner County Museum behind Trousdale Place in Gallatin.  The nearly 100-year-old pieces of history are from the interurban electric rail line uncovered during construction of the Downtown Streetscape.  The historic mass-transit system ran from downtown Gallatin round-trip to Nashville.

(Tennessee Department of Health, June 21, 2010) - Hot, humid weather is a hallmark of summertime in Tennessee. While activities of daily life often mean exposing ourselves to extreme heat, the Department of Health offers simple tips that can help reduce your risk of seasonal illness during the hot summer months. Temperatures that soar into the 90s and beyond raise the risk for heat-related illness. Heat-related illnesses include heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps and heat rash.
