Downtown Streetscape

December 18, 2009
Roy T. Goodwin’s brick crews are scheduled to return Monday to continue maintenance work on the brick pavers. The Santa Hut will be removed Monday morning;
however the brick area will still be cordoned off to allow the brick crew to do work in that area. Also, the city acquired three more benches which have been placed in various locations.

Tomorrow (Friday), crews from Roy T. Goodwin plan to do maintenance work on the brick crosswalks. None of the roads should be closed, but there may be traffic
flagging to work around the maintenance crew. The Santa House will be open Friday and Saturday night from 5 to 7.

December 9, 2009
The brick corner area of the Square will be closed-off with bollards soon for the Santa House which will be open Friday and Saturday nights, Dec. 11 & 12 and
18 & 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The drive lane through the Square will remain open. A crew or two from Roy T. Goodwin – the concrete and brick folks – will be doing some routine maintenance and follow-up on work downtown, primarily in the brick crosswalk areas.
The irrigation system has been “blown-out” for the winter, but there should be some additional landscape work possibly before Christmas.

(May 22, 2009)  North Water through downtown opened Friday and within seconds cars were travelling across it and parking along the west side of the street.  The final top coat is not on the road, so it may appear a bit rough and unfinished.  The top coat will be put on at the end of the entire streetscape project.  The majority of the downtown streetscape work is now focused on Public Square. Reminder:  all businesses are open

(April 30, 2009) Franklin Street at N. Water in Downtown reopens to vehicular traffic. The intersection features the new concrete island surrounded by brick-paver crosswalks that will be prevalent in the rest of the Downtown Streetscape.

(April 8, 2009) Contractors on the downtown Streetscape Project today poured and scored additional sections of sidewalk on N. Water between Franklin and Main and at the corners of Franklin and Water.

Downtown Groundbreaking

Mayor Jo Ann Graves and Greater Gallatin Director Donna Belote make the first dents in the asphalt kicking off construction January 27, 2009 on the Downtown Streetscape.  State legislators, council members, county officials, downtown property owners, merchants, and other citizens and community leaders braved the cold and rain to officially mark construction.  Govan’s Coffee House hosted the gathering, which moved outdoors to the inside corner of the square which will be replaced with concrete and brick. Construction Began January 27, 2009

Construction on Gallatin’s Downtown Streetscape began Tuesday, January 27.  If you have any questions or need information about the project, please contact the City’s project coordinator Rosemary Bates in the Mayor’s Office at 451-5961.  The contractor awarded the bid for the project is Civil Constructors.  Civil’s daily project superintendent is Brian Anderson.

Construction schedules and other information will be posted as often as necessary on the city’s website.  Please refer to this page often for the latest information.

The current scope of work encompasses the immediate downtown square and includes new and wider sidewalks, landscaping, brick and concrete crosswalks, repaved streets, benches, new street lighting, and improved drainage and utilities – just to mention a few.  The first phase of construction is slated to be stormwater drainage improvements from Franklin Street down to Town Creek.
